You create a plan, state the cash you start from and the period to simulate, then add recurring income and expenses. MoneyPlan works out the balance month by month to the end of the plan.
The income and expenses you record form the base scenario. Extra are the costs you're still weighing up: you switch them on and off to see what they do to the future balance, without touching the plan underneath.
To bring the calculated figure back in line with the real one: when the cash you actually hold drifts from the projection, reconciliation realigns the plan without you having to rebuild it.
Yes. You can create several plans in the same app, each with its own structure and its own projection, and move between them without mixing the numbers.
Locally, on the device where you installed the app: on Windows in %APPDATA%\MoneyPlan\moneyplan.db, on iPhone, iPad and Mac inside the app container. On Apple devices, if iCloud Drive is on, the data also lives in your own iCloud. No account, and no copy held on Alemik's servers.
On Windows, close the app and copy the moneyplan.db file (or the whole MoneyPlan folder) wherever you like; to restore, put the file back in the same place. On Apple devices, with iCloud Drive on, syncing keeps your devices aligned and the data is included in your iCloud backup. Alemik has no way to recover the data for you.
No. You type the numbers in yourself: the app does not connect to bank accounts and does not import transactions.
No. It projects the numbers you enter: it doesn't recommend investments and doesn't tell you what to do. The decision stays yours.
